Just finished installing under-cabinet lights in my kitchen. The brightness is fine, but some areas on the countertop look darker than others.
Using 12V LED strips, 5000K, mounted under the wall cabinets.
Is this usually caused by strip quality or installation position? Any simple way to improve it?
This is usually related to installation and light distribution, not strip quality.
Some practical fixes:
-
Strip position
Mount the strip closer to the front edge of the cabinet. If it’s too far back, shadows appear easily. -
Use diffusers
Aluminum profiles with diffusers help spread the light more evenly. -
Increase LED density, not just brightness
Higher LED density gives smoother lighting than simply increasing power. -
Avoid direct view of the LEDs
It reduces glare and improves visual comfort.
In most cases, adjusting the position and using aluminum profiles solves the issue well.
