I’m troubleshooting an LED display system where the configuration appears complete, but part of the screen remains black.
Current setup:
Using a NovaStar control system
Screen configuration completed in SmartLCT
Same model sender and receiver cards
Most of the screen lights up, but one section stays black
Re-sending the configuration does not resolve the issue
Screen and connection status:
Uniform module specifications
Ribbon cables reconnected and checked
Power indicators are normal
The black area is fixed, not random
Questions for those with hands-on experience:
1.Is this more commonly caused by receiver card issues or mapping/configuration errors?
2.Could incorrect cable order or port assignment lead to this behavior?
3.Is there a recommended troubleshooting sequence to isolate the root cause efficiently?
Looking for practical debugging experiestrong textnce, not general setup advice. Thanks!
This type of issue — where most of the screen works but a fixed area stays black — is fairly common in real projects. It’s usually best to start troubleshooting from the receiver-side signal chain and mapping.
Likely causes:
If the black area is fixed and doesn’t change after re-sending configurations, the issue is more likely related to receiver card mapping, cable order, or a faulty receiver card rather than a sender-level configuration problem.
Cabling and ports:
Incorrect ribbon cable direction or port assignment can easily cause an entire section to remain dark while others function normally. Carefully compare the physical wiring with the port mapping shown in SmartLCT.
Receiver card check:
Swapping the receiver card from the black area with one from a working area is a quick way to confirm whether the issue follows the card.
Recommended troubleshooting order:
Verify SmartLCT port mapping against actual wiring
Check ribbon cable orientation and connections
Swap receiver cards for cross-testing
Only then consider module or power-related issues
In most cases, problems like this can be resolved at the receiver or signal mapping level.
