LED High Bay Light Upgrade – Installation Notes from My Warehouse

I recently finished upgrading the lighting in my warehouse to LED high bay lights, and after using them for a while, I figured I’d share a few installation takeaways.

The first thing I learned is that brightness on paper doesn’t always equal good lighting in real use. Some lights looked powerful enough spec-wise, but after a few months, a few of them didn’t feel as bright as I expected. Placement and spacing ended up mattering more than I thought.

Heat was another thing I didn’t really consider at the beginning. During summer, a couple of fixtures get quite warm, and that’s when I noticed some minor flickering. Making sure there’s enough airflow around the lights definitely helps.

Light layout was probably the biggest lesson. Some areas turned out very bright, while others were still a bit dark. If I were doing it again, I’d spend more time planning beam angles and spacing instead of just choosing higher wattage.

Overall, the upgrade was worth it, but the installation details made a bigger difference than I expected.

Has anyone else upgraded their warehouse or workspace with LED high bays? I’d love to hear any other tips or lessons you learned from your setup!

Thanks for sharing your experience! You’re right — brightness on paper isn’t always the same as real-world lighting. Placement, spacing, and ventilation often have a bigger impact than wattage alone.

For anyone installing LED high bays, it’s helpful to plan beam angles and spacing in advance and make sure there’s enough airflow around the fixtures to reduce heat and flickering. Combining these steps usually leads to more even lighting and longer-lasting performance.
