I want to test two 12V DC 50cm IP65 waterproof rigid LED strips, available in SMD5050 and SMD2835 versions. With wavelength options including 635nm, 660-670nm, 730-735nm, 810nm, 850nm, and 940nm. What power supply should I use?
You should use a 12V DC constant-voltage power supply. Since these LED strips are designed for DC12V input, do not use a constant-current driver or any power supply higher than 12V. For testing one 50cm strip, a 12V 1A or higher adapter is usually a good choice. If you want to test several strips at the same time, increase the current rating accordingly and leave about 20%-30% extra power margin. For example, for 2-3 strips, a 12V 2A or 12V 3A power supply would be more suitable.
Please pay attention to polarity and do not reverse the positive and negative wires. IR wavelengths such as 810nm, 850nm, and 940nm may look dim or invisible to the human eye, but the LEDs are still emitting light and generating heat. Avoid looking directly at the LEDs during testing, especially at close range. For safer testing, use a regulated adapter with over-current, over-voltage, and short-circuit protection.
