Completed a restaurant linear lighting project — sharing real results and lessons learned

I recently completed a small-to-mid-sized restaurant linear lighting project. The system has been running stably for a while now, so I’d like to share some real-world results and observations for anyone working on similar spaces.

Project overview:

  • Space: restaurant dining area

  • Lighting goal: clean, warm, non-glare atmosphere

  • Lighting type: recessed linear ceiling lights

  • Daily usage: around 8–10 hours

  • Current status: operating stably for about 3 months

This post focuses on:

  1. The actual lighting effect after installation

  2. Differences between the initial design and real outcome

  3. Details noticed during daily operation

  4. What I would change if doing it again

I’ll attach real photos of the finished setup.
Happy to exchange experiences with others who’ve done similar projects.

Overall, the final result was better than expected, though there were definitely a few things that only became clear after real-world use.

Overall lighting effect
Using linear lights as the main illumination created a very clean and consistent look. The dining tables were well-lit without noticeable glare, and the space felt comfortable rather than overly commercial during evening hours.

Design expectations vs reality
Initially, we worried the linear lighting might feel too cold. By adjusting color temperature and fixture spacing, the final result was much softer than expected.
That said, areas affected by ceiling structure had slightly wider spacing, which reduced uniformity.

Observations during use

  • Extra care is needed during cleaning to prevent moisture from entering the channels

  • Fixture spacing should be reviewed carefully during design

  • Higher brightness doesn’t always equal better dining experience

If we did it again

  • I would add some secondary lighting instead of relying solely on linear fixtures

  • Spend more time on-site with mock-ups before final installation

Overall, linear lighting works very well for restaurant environments, but the final quality depends heavily on planning and attention to detail.
