Can I bypass the built-in driver and power this LED downlight directly with 12V?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking at the FX-1 Series waterproof LED downlight, which is rated for 100–240V AC input.

If I already have a main 12V power supply from a transformer, is it possible to cut off or bypass the built-in transformer/driver in the light and power it directly with 12V?

Just want to check before purchasing.
Thanks!

Is the driver integrated or external?

Hi,
Thank you for your question.
The driver is fully integrated inside the fixture and designed to work directly with 100–240V AC input.
There is no external driver or transformer, and the internal driver is matched to the LED chips, so it cannot be removed or replaced with an external one.

Is the IP65 rating for the entire fixture or just the front face?

The IP65 rating applies to the entire fixture when properly installed. The front face is fully protected against water jets, and the housing is designed to resist moisture and splashes from all directions.

However, proper installation is important. The light should be installed in accordance with the instructions, and cable entry points must be sealed correctly to maintain the IP65 protection level.

What is the required cutout size for installation?

Hi,

This model is designed to operate on 100–240V AC input and includes a built-in LED driver inside the fixture.
Because of this, it cannot be powered directly by a 12V supply, and the internal driver cannot be bypassed safely.

If you connect 12V directly to this light, it will not function properly and may cause damage.

If your system is based on 12V DC power, you’ll need LED lights that are specifically rated for 12V input, such as low-voltage step lights or landscape lights designed for DC 12V operation.

The required cutout size depends on the specific wattage.
Please refer to the product specification or size diagram on the product page for the exact cutout dimensions.
If you tell us the wattage, we can confirm the cutout size.
