Can a Constant Voltage Dimmer Be Used with a Constant Current LED Lamp?

I’m trying to replace the dimmer/driver in a bedside LED lamp.
The lamp has its own internal driver, and I’m not sure whether it can be replaced with a mini dimmer made for single-color LED strips.

I’ve attached a photo showing the drivers inside the lamp.
Has anyone dealt with a similar setup, or can advise if this type of dimmer would be compatible?

Thank you for your question and for sharing the photo.

Based on the image you provided, your current lamp is using a constant current LED driver / dimming system.
The Single Color LED Strip Mini Dimmer you mentioned, however, is a constant voltage dimmer designed for DC 12V / 24V single-color LED strip lights.

For this reason, the dimmer is not compatible with your existing setup.

As constant current fixtures require specific current control, we recommend contacting the lamp or driver manufacturer to confirm a suitable constant current dimming solution.

If you have future applications involving 12V or 24V single-color LED strips, we would be happy to assist.

Is there a universal dimmer that works for both constant current and constant voltage LEDs?

If I replace the driver with a constant voltage one, can I then use a 12V/24V dimmer?

In general, constant current and constant voltage systems require different control methods, and there is no universal dimmer that can safely support both. Each dimmer is designed to match a specific type of LED driver. Using an incompatible dimmer may result in improper operation or damage to the fixture.

In theory, a constant voltage dimmer can only be used if the LED light source itself is designed to operate on a constant voltage system (such as 12V or 24V LED strips). Simply replacing the driver is not sufficient if the LEDs are originally designed for constant current operation. We recommend confirming the LED specifications before making any modifications.
